Winter is finally here and pleasantly so. सर्दियों का मौसम अक्सर लोगों का favourite season होता है। Winters bring relief from the sweltering summer sun and there are festivities everywhere. हम सभी किसी न किसी तरह से आने वाली सर्दियों की तैयार में लगे हैं।  Almost all of us have taken out our winter wardrobe while some are busy shopping for a whole new one. जब सर्दियों की तैयारियां चल ही रही हैं तो क्यों न थोड़ा ध्यान अपनी WINTER VOCABULARY पर भी दिया जाए।  There are always certain words that one can use during the winter season and I think that now would be a good time to take a look at them. DIP AND PLUMMET सर्दियाँ आने का पहला इशारा होता है में कमी आ जाना। तापमान में आई हल्की गिरावट को बताने के लिए आप कुछ इस तरह कह सकते हैं: • There is a slight dip in the temperature. (तापमान में थोड़ी सी गिरावट आई है।) It's not necessary the temperature goes down in a gradual manner. सर्दियों के दौरान अक्सर ऐसा होता है कि किसी एक दिन अचनाक ही बहुत कम हो जाता है और ठण्ड बेहद बढ़ जाती है।  When there is a sudden dip in the temperature, we say: • The weather report says the temperature can plummet to as low as 2-degree Celsius in the next two days. (मौसम रिपोर्ट कहती है कि अगले दो दिनों में तापमान 2 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक एकदम निचे गिर सकता है।) NIPPY OR CHILLY Once the temperature goes down, next thing that would happen is that you'll feel it. A slight chill यानि हल्की-फुल्की सर्दी दर्शाने के लिए इस तरह से कहा जा सकता है: • It's a little nippy/chilly today, I am going to need a sweater. (आज थोड़ी सी ठण्ड है, मुझे एक स्वेटर की ज़रुरत पड़ेगी।) BITTERLY COLD When chilly becomes worse, winter becomes bitter. बेहद ठंडे मौसम के लिए'bitterly cold' का use किया जाता है। • Don't go out today, the weather is bitterly cold.( आज बाहर मत जाओ, मौसम बेहद ठंडा है।) FOGGY AND HAZY सारदियों में ठंड के कारण धुंध हो जाना एक बहुत ही आम बात है, खासकर रात या सुबह से समय जब मौसम सबसे अधिक ठंडा होता है।  When you can't see things clearly due to excess fog, your sight would be called hazy. • It was a cold, foggy night and everything looked hazy. (वह एक ठंडी, धुंध से भरी रात थी और सब कुछ धुंधला दिखाई पद रहा था।) HOARFROST सुइयों की तरह बर्फ के टुकड़ों की एक सफेद परत जो  बहुत ठण्ड होने पर बहार रखी वस्तुओं पर जम जाती है, उसे Hoarfrost कहा जाता है।  Hoarfrost यानि पाला पड़ना सर्दियों में एक आम बात है और इसका असर सबसे ज़्यादा फसल पर पड़ता है।  • Due to the hoarfrost, the crop yields were greatly damaged. (पाला पड़ने के कारण फसलों की पैदावार को बहुत नुकसान पहुंचा।) NUMB OR FROSTBITTEN Extreme cold weather not only harms the flora but can also affect us. अक्सर ठण्ड में हमारे हाथ पैर ठीक से काम नहीं कर पाते हैं और अगर ठण्ड की स्थिति बढ़ जाए या आप पर्याप्त गर्म वर्स्त्र न पहनें तो यह ठण्ड आपके शरीर को सुन्न भी कर सकते है।  • My feet are numb with cold. (मेरे पैर ठण्ड से सुन्न हो गए हैं।) When numbness reaches its peak, the condition is called as FROSTBITE. • Mountaineers often suffer from frostbites. (पर्वतारोही अक्सर शीतदंश से ग्रस्त होते हैं। ) BLUSTERY  One thing that adds to winter is the cold wind. शरीर को अंदर तक ठंडा कर देने वाली बेहद ठंडी व वेगपूर्ण हवाओं को Blustery कहा जाता है।  FLEECY AND COZY One thing that we all love about the winters is that warm and cozy feeling we get once we slid under our fleecy blankets and sip piping hot coffee from our favourite mugs. नरम व गर्म रोवेंदार फैब्रिक (जैसे की उन) से बने किसी भी मुलायम कपड़े को 'FLEECY' कहा जाता है।  और Fleecy blanket को ओढ़ कर मिलने वाली आरामदायक गर्माहट भरी feeling को COZY कहते हैं। In the end, harsh or whatever, I LOVE YOU WINTER!
