(आज सुबह जब मैंने खिड़की खोली तो मुझे हवा में थोड़ी सी ठण्ड महसूस हुई।) COLD SNAP/ COLD SPELL A sudden but brief spell of cold weather is referred to as a cold snap or cold spell. it's is very sudden cold weather that passes as quickly. अक्सर Winters में कुछ दिन ऐसे आते हैं जब तामपान अचानक ही और दिनों के मुकाबले कहीं ज़्यादा कम हो जाता है और ठण्ड कई गुना बढ़ जाती है। इस बेहद ठण्ड वाली परन्तु कम समय की अवधि को cold snap/spell कहा जाता है। • All roads were covered with snow today due to last night's cold snap/ spell. (कल रात अचानक ठंड बढ़ जाने के कारण सभी सड़कें आज बर्फ से ढंकी हुई थी।) CHILLED TO THE BONE शरीर में कंपकंपी पैदा कर देने वाली, अत्यंत ठण्ड लगने की feeling को दर्शाने के लिए इस phrase का use किया जा सकता है। The kind of winter that chills you to the bones usually comes with incessant snowfall and piercing cold winds. • The icy wind blowing on the mountain made us chilled to our bones. (पहाड़ पर चल रही बर्फीली हवा हमारी हड्डियों तक को ठंडा कर गयी।) BRASS MONKEY WEATHER Another way to talk about extremely cold weather is to call it 'the brass monkey weather' यह मुहावरा एक आम बोलचाल की शैली से लिया गया है जिसका अर्थ है 'अत्यंत ठंडा मौसम।' • I don't feel like going out tonight, it's a brass monkey weather outside. (मेरा आज रात बाहर जाने का मन नहीं है, बाहर अत्यंत ठण्ड पद रही है। ) THE DEAD OF WINTER The coldest, darkest time of winter is known as the dead of winter. अक्सर सर्द मौसम के बीच वाले हिस्से में ही सबसे गहन ठण्ड पड़ती है और उस समय के लिए यह phrase use किया जाता है। • The only thing you I want to do in the dead of winter is to stay indoors and drink hot coffee. (गहन सर्दी के मौसम में मै सिर्फ एक चीज़ करना चाहता हूँ और वो घर के अंदर रहना और गर्म कॉफी पीना है।) UNDER THE WEATHER One thing that winter season brings with it, which is hated by everyone, is the FLU and such other diseases. सर्दियों में बीमार पड़ना बहुत ही आम बात है और ठण्ड लगने के कारण हुई कई प्रकार की शारीरिक तकलीफों के लिए यह एक phrase ही use करना पर्याप्त है। • I can't come to the office today, I am feeling a little under the weather. (मैं आज कार्यालय में नहीं आ सकूंगा, मुझे तबियत कुछ ठीक नहीं लग रही है ।) BUNDLE UP To bundle up is to get dressed heavily in warm clothing or simply just packing yourself up with a pile of sweaters and coats. well, it may or may not look nice, but it's sure gonna FEEL NICE and not to mention, WARM. • You better bundle up because it’s freezing cold outside.
