Use of correct preposition
There is no simple rule that governs the usage of preposition. It can be quite difficult to determine which preposition to use in a particular situation. It’s necessary to determine the appropriate preposition to use with a particular kind of verb so that you can immerse yourself in good English to write it in a natural way.
Preposition एक small word है जो किसी sentence में Noun or Pronoun से पहले आता है और Noun या Pronoun और दूसरे words के बारे में information देता है। English के एक sentence में Preposition का use जितना ज़रूरी है वहीँ अगर ये किसी sentence में absent हो या फिर इसका misuse हो जाये तो sentence का पूरा मतलब बदल जाता है ।
नीचे दिए गए ऐसे कुछ verb words हैं जिनके साथ लोग अक्सर wrong preposition का use कर देते हैं ।
- Accustomed to, not with.
I’m accustomed
with travelling a lot in my job-
Incorrect.
यहाँ Accustomed के बाद
with नहीं
to preposition का use होगा। Accustomed to (sth) का मतलब है – किसी बात का या किसी चीज़ का आदी होना।
- I’m accustomed to travelling a lot in my job- Correct.
मैं अपने काम में बहुत यात्रा करने का आदी हूं।
यहाँ
accustomed to की जगह
used to का भी use किया जा सकता है।
- Complain about, not for.
People are always complaining
for the weather-
Incorrect.
Verb Complain के बाद
about का use होगा,
for preposition का नहीं। Complain about (sth/that) का मतलब है- शिकायत करना या फिर किसी बात से असंतुष्ट होना ।
- People are always complaining about the weather. - Correct.
लोगों को हमेशा मौसम के बारे में/ को लेकर शिकायत रहती है।
Complain के बाद
of preposition का भी use किया जा सकता है।
Complain of का use आप तब करते हैं जब आप किसी बिमारी (illness) के बारे में बात करते हैं।
- I complained of a sore throat.
मुझे गले ख़राब की शिकायत थी।
- Covered with, not by.
The mountains are covered
by snow.
Incorrect.
Covered के बाद
by नहीं
with/in preposition का use होगा। Covered with/in (sth) का मतलब है- किसी चीज़ को ढकना।
- The mountains are covered with/in snow. – Correct.
पहाड़ बर्फ से ढके हुए हैं।
- Dressed in, not with.
The people at the funeral were all dressed
with white. -

Dressed के बाद
with नहीं
in preposition का use होगा। Dressed in (sth) का मतलब है- wearing something. (पहने हुए) ।
- The people at the funeral were all dressed in white. – Correct.
अंतिम संस्कार के समय सभी सफ़ेद रंग में (पहने हुए) थे।
- Good at, not in.
She is good
in English-
Incorrect
Good के बाद
in नहीं
at preposition का use होगा। Good at (sth) का मतलब है - किसी काम को करने में सक्षम (capable) होना या किसी काम में अच्छा होना।
- She’s good at English. - Correct
वह इंग्लिश में अच्छी है।
Good के बाद
in का use तब किया जा सकता है जब आप किसी के conduct या behavior या अच्छाई के बारे में बात करते हैं।
- I’m sure there is some good in everybody.
मुझे विश्वास है कि हर किसी में थोड़ी बहुत अच्छाई होती है।
- Independent of, not from
I got a part time job because I wanted to be financially independent
from my parents-
Incorrect.
Independent के बाद
from नहीं
of preposition का use होगा। Independent of (sb/sth) का मतलब है - किसी पर निर्भर न होना या आत्मनिर्भर होना।
- I got a part time job because I wanted to be financially independent of my parents- Correct.
मुझे अंशकालिक नौकरी मिल गई क्योंकि मैं अपने माता-पिता से वित्तीय रूप से स्वतंत्र होना चाहता था।
Dependent के बाद
on का use होगा। Dependent on का मतलब है - निर्भर होना।
- A child is dependent on its parents.
एक बच्चा अपने माता-पिता पर निर्भर है।
- Prefer to, not from
I prefer going by train
from flying. –
Incorrect.
Prefer के बाद
from नहीं
to preposition का use होगा।
Prefer to (sth) का मतलब है- एक के स्थान पर किसी दूसरे को चुनना या किसी वस्तु को जयादा पसंद करना।
- I prefer going by train to flying. - Correct.
मैं हवाई यात्रा की बजाए ट्रैन से जाना पसंद करता हूँ।
- Related to, not with.
Are you related
with John in any way? -
Incorrect.
Related के बाद
with नहीं
to preposition का use होगा। Related to (sb/sth) का मतलब है- किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु से सम्बन्घित या सम्बन्ध होना।
- Are you related to john in any way? – Correct.
क्या आपका जॉन से किसी तरह का कोई सम्बन्ध है?
