The CONFUSED Vocabulary

To be confused is so common in our lives that we experience it almost on a daily basis; sometimes a lot within a single day. चाहे कोई नया experience हो या किसी पुरानी चीज़ में आया हुआ बदलाव हो, anything can cause confusion. यूँ तो confused होना एक बहुत ही common feeling है पर इस feeling की intensity अलग-अलग situations में different हो सकती है Now, the reason why we are talking about confusion today is that it's important to learn how to express your confusion, or else you might just stay there forever. Certain dictionaries में confusion की definition कुछ इस प्रकार है:

a situation in which people do not understand what is happening, what they should do or who someone or something is

uncertainty about what is happening, intended, or required
Let's not get into technical definitions and learn some words or synonyms that would help you to express your confusion in various situations. PERPLEXED ( हैरान ) Use it when you simply cannot understand or make sense of something. BAFFLED ( चकराया हुआ/ चकित ) Used when a confusion surprises you quite intensely and you just can't figure out what's going on. BEWILDERED ( हक्का बक्का/  घबराया हुआ ) At times, your inability to understand something might lead to an intense form of confusion where you might feel frightened and that's when you are bewildered use this term. DAZED ( स्तब्ध/  चौंधिया जाना ) Used when someone is in a state of mental numbness especially as resulting from shock or bad news. DISORIENTED ( गुमराह ) When confusion leads to a state where one might lose one's sense of direction where to go or what to do. उलझन को व्यक्त करने के लिए शब्दों के अलावा phrases का use भी किया जा सकता है। Let's learn a few. AT SEA When you are perplexed by many conflicting situations or statements or filled with bewilderment in a manner that you have no idea about anything, this phrase is apt for such type of confusions. AT A LOSS I have experienced this a lot. At times, when someone is doing something (or speaking- as in my case), they suddenly go blank and lose the track of their ongoing actions. किसी तरह, आप बस समझ ही नहीं पाते हैं कि आगे क्या करना है। इस तरह की situations को express करने के लिए 'at a loss' phrase का use किया जाता है। ZONE-OUT आप में से कई लोगों ने यह experience किया होगा कि आप एक not-so-interested conversation का हिस्सा हैं और एक समय के बाद आप इतने uninterested हो जाते हैं कि आपका मन अपने आप ही किसी दूसरी सोच या ख्यालों में गुम हो जाता है। This happens only for a short duration though, and that's the beauty of this kind of confusion, you can always come back from the dreamland trip without letting anyone know about it.
