What do you understand when I say the word 'SOPHISTICATED'? For some, it's a form of civilised behaviour while for some it's just a euphemism for a snob. For me, it's a part of the vocabulary. Just by replacing few words here and there, you can too become sophisticated, at least your communication skills will. BUT WHAT'S THE NEED? ऐसा नहीं है कि आम बोल चाल के शब्द इस्तेमाल करने से हमारी communication skills कमज़ोर हो जाती है, परन्तु यह भी सच है कि हम listener पर अपनी impressive छाप छोड़ने में सफल नहीं हो पाते। यकीन मानें, जब बात है आपकी English vocabulary की तो sophisticated बनना इतना भी कठिन काम नहीं है। Today we'll start off with some easy words that you can use in everyday communications. PONDER (पॉन्डर) Meaning: To think about something deeply and carefully, especially before making a decision (सोच-विचार करना/चिंतन करना/मनन करना) • I'll need some time to ponder on this deal's profits. • मुझे इस सौदे के मुनाफे के बारे में विचार करने के लिए कुछ समय चाहिए। GLIB (ग्लिब) Meaning: A smooth/voluble but sly and dishonest talker (चिकनी चुपड़ी व ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा बातें करने वाला) • That glib lawyer was talking a lot. • वह चिकनी चुपड़ी बातें करने वाला वकील बहुत ही ज़्यादा बोल रहा था। PIVOTAL (पिव-अ-टल) Meaning: Central and of crucial importance (प्रधान व अत्यंत मत्वपूर्ण) • The alliance of two parties played a pivotal role to form the government. • दो पक्षों के गठबंधन ने सरकार बनाने में  एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। INEVITABLE (इन-एवि-टबल) Meaning: Unavoidable and certain to happen (अपरिहार्य/अनिवार्य/निश्चित) • Road accidents are the inevitable consequences of careless driving. • सड़क दुर्घटनाएं लापरवाह ड्राइविंग के अपरिहार्य परिणाम हैं। SURRENDER (स-रैन-डर) Meaning: To give up and accept defeat (हार मान लेना) • I won't surrender so easily. • मै इतनी आसानी से हार नही मानने वाला। TOP-NOTCH (टॉप-नौच) Meaning: Of highest quality/excellent. (सर्वश्रेष्ठ/ बेहतरीन/ अव्वल दर्जे का) • I believe his music is top-notch. • मेरा मानना है कि उनका संगीत अव्वल दर्जे का है। PERSUADE (पर्-स्वेड) Meaning: Make/convince someone to do something through reasoning or argument. (मनाना, राज़ी करना) • Sam persuaded his father to buy a new bike for him. • Sam ने अपने पिता को उसके लिए एक नई बाइक खरीदने के लिए राज़ी कर लिया। Well, we are off to a good start.
