Well, it’s true but to an extent. क्या आपने कभी सोचा है की आखिर ये silent words आए कहाँ से और कुछ English words की spellings में इनका use क्यों किया जाता है? आइये आज हम जानते हैं कि English language में silent letters का महत्त्व क्या है और इन्हे समझना व इनका इस्तेमाल करना हमारे लिए कितना आवश्यक है USES OF SILENT LETTERS To distinguish between homophones जिन शब्दों का pronunciation यानि उच्चारण एक जैसा हो परन्तु उनके अर्थ में अंतर हो, उन्हें homophones कहा जाता है। एक जैसी pronunciation होने के कारण अक्सर कर देते हैं क्योंकि सिर्फ बोल कर आप इनके बीच के difference को न तो समझ सकते हैं और न ही समझा सकते हैं। That’s why we have to use silent letters in their spellings. Hence, silent letters play a crucial role when it comes to understanding the homophones. Let’s see a few examples: NO - KNOW Here, both the words have same pronunciation which is - नो अगर लिखते समय silent letters K and W का use न किया जाए तो No (यानी नहीं) और Know (यानी जानना) के different meanings को समझ पाना impossible है। RITE - WRITE Just like the above example, Rite and Write can be differentiated only with the help of their spellings that is, by adding a silent letter. किसी भी सामाजिक रीति या रिवाज़ को ‘Rite’ कहा जाता है जबकि ‘Write’ का अर्थ होता है लिखना। यदि यहाँ WRITE की spelling में silent letter - W का प्रयोग न किया जाए तो Rite और Write दो अलग नहीं बल्कि एक ही शब्द बन कर रह जाएंगे। Once again, silence to the rescue!
