भले ही किसी शब्द की spelling में मौजूद silent letter/letters को उस शब्द को बोलते समय pronounce न किया जाए, परन्तु silent letter की presence और absence का उस particular word की pronunciation पर बहुत important प्रभाव पड़ता है। आइये अपनी इस silent letters को समझने journey की को आगे बढ़ाते हैं और जानते हैं की silent letters का words की pronunciation पर कितना व क्या प्रभाव पड़ता है। Let's begin to understand and learn some Silent Letter Rules SILENT B English letter ‘b’ को इन दो spelling situations में pronounce नहीं किया जाता है : Before ‘t’ Debt - डेट/डैट Doubt - डाउट Subtle - सटल Remember, यह rule केवल तब मान्य है जब letter ‘t’ किसी root word की spelling के अंत में present हो। Root word का अर्थ है किसी शब्द को बिना किसी prefix या suffix के उसकी original form में लिखना। Example: doubt is the root word taken from ‘doubtful’ where ‘ful’ is a suffix. An exception to this rule: OBTAIN - अब्टेन/ऑब्टेन क्योंकि ‘obtain’ एक root word नहीं है, इसलिए यहाँ letter ‘t’ से पहले आने वाले letter ‘b’ को silent न मानकर fully pronounce किया जाता है।   After ‘m’ Limb - लिम Dumb - डम Comb - कोम SILENT C English letter ‘C’ is not pronounced in following situations: In the ‘SC ‘ combination Scissors - सीज़र्स Ascent - असेन्ट Fascinate - फैसनेट However, यह rule कुछ ही words पर applicable है क्योंकि English language में ऐसे भी बहुत से शब्द हैं जहाँ ‘SC’ combination में भी letter ‘c’ को pronounce किया जाता है जैसे कि: Scope - स्कोप Scale - स्केल Before letters K and Q Word spellings में English letter K और Q से पहले letter C का प्रयोग बहुत ही redundant माना जाता है जिस कारण ऐसी situations में ‘c’ अक्सर silent होता है: Acquit - अक्विट Acquire - अक्वाइअर Acknowledge - एक्नॉलेज SILENT D जिन words की spelling में ‘DG’ combination का use किया जाता है, उन words की spelling में letter 'd' को pronounce नहीं किया जाता : Pledge - प्लेज Grudge - ग्रज Dodge - डॉज Other than this rule, there are many random words With ‘d’ as a silent letter in their spellings.  Well, that’s confusing आपने अक्सर लोगों को इन शब्दों को गलत pronounce करते भी सुना होगा: Sandwich - सैन्ड्विच सैन्विच Wednesday - वेडनेसडे वेन्ज़्डे Handkerchief - हैंडकरचीफ हैंकरचीफ Handsome - हैंडसम हैन्सम Well, that was quite some silent Information for today.
