So, without further ado, let's learn some 'SEASON': PHRASES AND IDIOMS OPEN SEASON (on some living creature) Meaning: The annual period when restrictions on the killing of certain types of wildlife, especially for sports or games, are lifted. (वार्षिक अवधि जब कुछ प्रकार के वन्यजीवों की हत्या पर, विशेष रूप से खेल के लिए, प्रतिबंध हटा दिया जाए।) • The government has declared an 'open season week' for the buck hunting. • सरकार ने हिरण का शिकार करने के लिए एक हफ्ते के open season की घोषणा की है। OPEN SEASON (on somebody) Meaning: a period of time when people criticise or unfairly treat a particular person or group of people (समय की वह अवधि जब लोग किसी विशेष व्यक्ति या समूह की आलोचना करते हैं या उनके प्रती गलत तरीके से व्यवहार करते हैं।) • I feel that the politicians consider the elections period as an open season on the opposition leaders. • मुझे लगता है कि सभी राजनेता चुनाव का दौर केवल विपक्षी दल के नेताओं की आलोचना व निंदा करने का समय है। OUT OF SEASON Meaning: 1. The time when a vegetable or fruit is not cultivated and is not available fresh locally. (जब किसी सब्ज़ी या फल की खेती का मौसम ना हो या और वह स्थानीय रूप से ताज़ा उपलब्ध ना हो।) • Apples are so expensive these days as they are out of season. • इन दिनों मौसम से बाहर होने के कारण सेब बहुत महंगे हैं। 2. That time when something is less popular or fashionable. (वह समय जब कोई चीज़ कम लोकप्रिय या फैशन से बाहर होती है।) • Traditional gold jewellery seems to be out of season now. • पारंपरिक सोने के आभूषण अब लोगों के बीच लोकप्रिय नहीं रहे। 3. That time of year when hunting or fishing is not allowed legally. (साल का वह समय जब किसी जानवर या मछलियों को पकड़ना या मारना कानूनी तौर पर मना हो।) • He had to pay a heavy penalty as he caught an out of season tuna fish. • उसे भारी जुर्माना चुकाना पड़ा क्यूंकि उसने एक out of season टूना मछली को पकड़ा था। IN SEASON Meaning: The time when fruits and vegetables (to cultivate) or other things (to sell in the market) become available.
