Our last blog was about some basic 'prepositions of direction' i.e. the words that help us to indicate the direction of movement of a person or a thing.

'Prepositions of direction' indicate that something is headed for or directed to somewhere.

आज हम सीखते हैं कुछ नए शब्द जिन्हें 'दिशा' बताने के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।   ACROSS = From one side to the other side in a defined space (किसी सीमित स्थान की एक तरफ से दूसरी तरफ जाना) • Use the zebra crossing to go across the street.(सड़क के दूसरी तरफ जाने के लिए ज़ेब्रा क्रॉसिंग का उपयोग करें)   THROUGH = From one end or place to the other (किसी भी असीमित जगह के एक स्थान से दूसरे तक) • It is not safe to go through jungle route in the night. (रात में जंगल के रास्ते से जाना सुरक्षित नहीं है)   AROUND/ ROUND = In a circular manner (गोलाकार तरीके से/ चारों ओर) • They were all sitting around/round the table.(वे सभी मेज के चारों ओर बैठे थे)   ALONG = Constant movement beside something more or less long and thin in shape (लम्बाई में साथ साथ चलना) • All the cars were parked along the street.(सभी गाड़ियां सड़क के साथ खड़ी की गयी थीं)   PAST = A close and nearby movement that takes you to a further point (नज़दीक से होकर आगे निकल जाना) • Go past the post office and turn left. (पोस्ट ऑफिस के पास से निकल कर बाएं मुड़ जाएं)   AFTER = Follow or move closely behind something (किसी के पीछे या बाद में) • I ran after the thief but he escaped.(मैं चोर के पीछे भागा लेकिन वह बच निकला)   UPHILL = From lower ground to higher ground on a slope (ढलान पर नीचे से ऊपर की ओर जाना) • The car itself slows down while driving uphill.(ढलान पर ऊपर की ओर ड्राइविंग करते हुए गाड़ी अपने आप धीमी पड़ जाती है)   DOWNHILL = Leading down toward the bottom of a slope (ऊपर से नीचे की ओर ढलान) • Cycling in speed could be dangerous while going downhill.(ढलान से नीचे आते हुए तेज़ साइकिल चलाना खतरनाक हो सकता है) Learn more from our other blogs: Prepositions of PLACE Prepositions of TIME Common Prepositions Mistakes Don’t forget to download our English learning app Namaste English.
