A preposition, as defined by the dictionary, is a word governing, and usually preceding, a noun or pronoun and expressing a relation to another word or element in the clause. Prepositions यानी 'सम्बन्ध-सूचक अव्यय' उन शब्दों को कहते हैं जो किसी संघ्या या सर्वनाम का सम्बन्ध किसी दूसरे शब्द यानी वाक्य के object के साथ दर्शाते हैं। 'Pre' का अर्थ है 'पहले' इसलिए prepositions का प्रयोग generally noun या pronoun से पहले किया जाता है। In easy words, one can say that prepositions mostly describes the 'position' of the subject or relation between two words in a sentence. For example: • The keys are on the table. • He is sitting in the car. Prepositions can also indicate purpose or contrast  • I'm very fond of rain. • We went for a walk despite the rain. Since prepositions are quite commonly used, they are also quite commonly mistaken. आइये आज सीखते हैं prepositions का प्रयोग करने में की जाने वाली कुछ आम गलतियां और कुछ common prepositions का सही तरह से प्रयोग करना। COMMON PREPOSITION MISTAKES Arrive at or arrive to You always 'arrive at' some place and never 'arrive to'. किसी जगह पहुंचने पर 'arrive to' कहना बिल्कुल गलत English है। Incorrect  We arrived to the airport this morning. Correct     We arrived at the airport this morning. At night or in night It's fine if you say 'in morning' or 'in afternoon' but you would be wrong if you say 'in night'. रात के समय को दर्शाने के लिए 'at night' का प्रयोग होता है। Incorrect  I like to roam around in night. Correct    I like to roam around at night. Welcome to or welcome in किसी मेहमान का स्वागत करने के लिए 'welcome' का use किया जाता है परंतु 'welcome in' कहना गलत है।You always say 'welcome to'. Incorrect  Welcome in our country. Correct    Welcome to our country Married to or married with Since marriage already defines your relation with someone, you should never use the preposition 'with' here. यहाँ आपको हमेशा 'married to' का प्रयोग करना चाहिए। Incorrect  Sam is married with my cousin sister. Correct    Sam is married to my cousin sister. Senior to or senior than It would be incorrect if you say that you are 'senior than' somebody. Seniority दर्शाने के लिए हमेशा 'senior to' का use करना चाहिए। Incorrect  Amy is senior than me. Correct     Amy is senior to me.
