In continuation to the comma saga, let's learn a few more comma mistakes that we usually do:
With 'as well as'
'As well as' से पहले comma का प्रयोग सिर्फ तब किया जाता है जब यह phrase किसी non-restrictive clause यानी वाक्य में दी गई extra information का हिस्सा होता है।
For example:
Correct The teachers, as well as the students, must respect the non-smoking policy.(शिक्षकों को, साथ ही छात्रों को भी, गैर धूम्रपान नीति का सम्मान करना चाहिए।) - with non-restrictive clause
When used with restrictive clauses or essential information, 'as well as' is not preceded by a comma.
Incorrect The new policy applies to faculty, as well as staff.
Correct The new policy applies to faculty as well as staff. (नई नीति शिक्षण संकाय के साथ-साथ कर्मचारियों पर भी लागू होती है।) - with a restrictive clause
With 'such as'
Similar is the case with 'such as'.
'Such as' के साथ comma का use तभी किया जाता है जब यह वाक्य में किसी non-restrictive clause को introduce करता है, अन्यथा नही।
Correct Junk food, such as pizza and burger, is not good for health. (जंक फ़ूड, जैसे कि पिज्जा और बर्गर, स्वास्थ्य के लिए अच्छा नहीं है।) - with non-restrictive clause
Incorrect Fruits, such as oranges, are high in vitamin C.
Correct Fruits such as oranges are high in vitamin C. (संतरे जैसे फल विटामिन सी से भरपूर होते हैं।) - with restrictive clause
अगर आप यहाँ comma का use करेंगे तो उससे वाक्य का अर्थ बदल जाएगा।
Comma के होने से ऐसा प्रतीत होगा कि सभी फलों में vitamin C होता है।
Before 'but'
This is the most confused one.
'But' शब्द से पहले comma तब use करते हैं जब एक वाक्य में दो independent clauses का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
Correct Her husband is very stingy, but she is quite generous.(उसका पति बहुत कंजूस है, लेकिन वह काफी उदार है।) - with independent clause
अगर वाक्य में dependent clauses का use किया जा रहा है तब वहां 'but' के साथ comma लगाने की आवश्यकता नही है।
Incorrect My father is strict, but not cruel.
Correct My father is strict but not cruel. (मेरे पिता सख्त हैं लेकिन क्रूर नहीं हैं।) - with a dependent clause
Before 'and'
Okay, this one's a little controversial.
अगर आपके sentence में सिर्फ दो ही वस्तुओं का mention है तो 'and' से पहले comma use करना गलत है।
Incorrect My sister, and I are very close to each other.
Correct My sister and I are very close to each other.(मेरी बहन और मैं एक दूसरे के बहुत करीबी हैं।)

Before 'too'
'Too' से पहले comma का use करना आवश्यक तो नही लेकिन गलत भी नहीं है।
It depends on the intention of the writer.
यदि आप अपनी बात को emphasise करना चाहते हैं तो 'too' से पहले comma का प्रयोग करना उचित रहता है।
Correct Not just you but I, too, can do this flip easily. OR Not just you but I can easily do this flip, too. (सिर्फ तुम नहीं, लेकिन मैं भी इस फ्लिप को आसानी से कर सकता हूं।)
